Man Caught Smuggling Lizards in Underwear is Sentenced

A few weeks back, we told you about a man who was caught at a New Zealand airport trying to smuggle rare lizards out of the country –in his underwear. Well, it seems that the courts will be making an example out of Hans Kurt Kubus, who hails from Germany, for attempting to sneak out of the country with not one, not two…but 44 endangered lizards stuffed in his skivvies. …

7 Wacky Upcycled Circuit Board Accessories

The art of upcycling isn’t always practical – as is the case with these rather jagged-looking metal undies . But don’t go thinking that all accessories made from old computer chips and circuit boards are so painful. Some, like these rather gorgeous earrings and this opulent bib necklace , are actually quite lovely and will definitely cause less… chafing.

Federal Government Will Cut Its GHG Emissions 28% by 2020

Many of us were disappointed by the State of the Union address Wednesday night.  Sure the president stressed the importance of a climate bill and clean energy development, but he also committed to pursuing more nuclear energy, new offshore oil drilling and “clean” coal. That makes today’s announcement that the Federal Government will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 28 percent by 2020 very welcome news.  The largest energy consumer in the U.S. will cut its emissions by making gains in efficiency and using more renewable energy.  The government spent $24.5 billion on electricity and fuel in 2008 alone and hopes to save $8 – 11 billion over the next decade through this initiative

Rapid Re(f)use: New York City Rebuilt From Its Own Trash

New York City , much like any big city, disposes of a lot of trash — but what if that trash could be used in a constructive manner? NYC-based architects Terreform have proposed a new form of construction for the City that uses industrial sized robots to create buildings and islands from waste instead of sending it to landfills like Fresh Kills . They’re calling the project Rapid Re(f)use, and the first design is a reverse of the Statue of Liberty that would be built out in the harbor.
